Infrared Sauna FAQ
Infratherapy refers to the use of infrared light to treat pain and inflammation. During an infratherapy session, light is diffused to the precise place of pain. Thus, it promotes the repair of cells in this area, so that the pain disappears, but also the cause of this pain.
Infrared is a form of low-energy electromagnetic radiation, which allows it to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin without damaging it. It is safe, non-invasive, non-radioactive and painless. Infratherapy is an innovative method whose effectiveness has been proven. The near-infrared technology of our saunas is similar to the infrared used in cosmetic and healing devices.
It depends mainly on your degree of tolerance. For beginners, we start with a 10 to 15 minute session. The suggested duration for this procedure is 20 to 30 minutes. Our saunas are equipped with a timer, so you don't have to worry about overexposure. Staying in the infrared sauna longer than the recommended time can cause dehydration.
While changing our diet can help manage free radicals, sometimes factors beyond our control influence the reactive oxygen species in our body. Pollution, radiation and even exposure to smoke are sometimes impossible to avoid depending on where we are or the circumstances. Our infratherapy or near-infrared treatment is therefore an option to combat oxidative stress.
Rather than heating the air around you like a traditional sauna, an infrared sauna uses infrared lamps that heat your body directly. Infrared light penetrates human tissue at a temperature of 120 to 140°F. The temperature of traditional saunas is usually between 150 and 180 °F. Your body therefore sweats more intensely, but at a lower temperature.
If this is your first time in an infrared sauna, a temperature of 100°F is ideal. Once you are comfortable, you can start to raise the temperature. We will gradually increase to 150°F, the highest temperature a sauna can reach. Tell the iCRYO team member if this is your first time trying this type of treatment.
We recommend that you wear regular sportswear inside the sauna and bring a change of clothes to change afterwards. Be sure to hydrate before and after the sauna to avoid dehydration. For the best hydration solutions, take a look at our IV infusions!
Red light therapy has shown promise for maintaining cognitive function and brain activity in healthy people. Many of us will experience some cognitive decline as we age. One study found improvements in higher cortical functions, such as rule-learning based in the prefrontal cortex, sustained attention, and short-term memory, in young, healthy subjects.
